Education support for your adopted or fostered child

Diagrama recognises the vital importance of education and the impact on the outcomes for children who are adopted or are in foster care.

To address the daily challenges faces by carers and adopters, Diagrama has now appointed education advisor Elaine Mattera to help people who use our services to access the most appropriate educational support.

Elaine has worked within the education sector for the past 30 years, predominantly in primary schools as both a class teacher and headteacher. Elaine is also an experienced adopter, having adopted siblings through the Catholic Children’s Society with her husband in 2006.

She is passionate about children and education and aims to provide families with advice on educational issues, as well as support them on a one to one basis where possible.

In addition, Elaine has extensive experience of mentoring, coaching and leading training courses. Currently, she enjoys a role as a link tutor, supporting Primary PGCE trainees on their teaching placements within schools.

Elaine will be involved in running education workshops, attending Diagrama’s fostering and adoption support groups, as well as being available to our foster carers and adopters for advice and support on any educational issues they might have challenges with.

If Diagrama foster carers and/or adopters would like support with their child/young person’s education, get in touch with Elaine by emailing educationadvice@diagrama.org and Elaine will respond directly.

From time to time Elaine will also participate in an online question and answer session which will be open to adopters and foster carers from outside the organisation as well. Dates will be published on the events page of our fostering and adoption blog.
